Larry's lists:the top five . . .
....ARTISTS
U2 They've managed to remain on top for more than 20 years by bringing out good stuff all the time. And Bono has said that the next album will be a change, so I'm looking forward to that.
Elvis Presley The blueprint of every pop star that came after him. Those late 1950s/early 1960s songs were terrific. He ruined himself a bit by going into the Las Vegas cabaret years.
The Blades I think Paul Cleary was a brilliant songwriter, and the band just missed out on the chance to be huge. They really could have been if they'd had the luck.
Thin Lizzy They were just a great classic rock band. Phil was great - looked fantastic, looked the part.
David Bowie Brilliant in every way; another fella who reinvented himself several times and came back and back, and can still bring out some very good stuff.
. . . ALBUMS
U2 The Joshua Tree
Steely Dan Katy Lied
Thin Lizzy Whiskey in the Jar
The Radiators Ghostown
The Blades Ghost of a Chance © 2007 The Irish Times
