Pete
I recently got my hands on an Irish CBS pressing of TV Tube Heart. (Missing the lyrics, alas!) I notice this one has a colour cover, whereas on other releases everything is tinted blue. The blue probably does strengthen the impression that you're all glued to the TV, but was there any other reason for the change?
Thanks
Ronan

The CBS sleeve is a different shot from all other releases. I'll have a look and see if i have a spare lyric insert for you.
ps. Steve decided to have a different shot for Ireland

just checked my copy CBS 82314 and it seems to be a mix of two covers. the front is coloured and also tinted blue. the back cover is B&W. no lyric sheet just plain white inner sleeve so maybe CBS didnt issue one. licenced from midnite records? ? was there anything released on midnite records?

These are the significant differences.
UK = Philip's hands are clasped CBS = Philip's arms are folded
UK = Steve face straight on CBS = Steve resting face on hand
UK = Pete's hands joined CBS = Pete's hands apart revealing chiswick logo
also Copy of Sunday world clearly visable in foreground
Window at rear clearly visable revealing house across the road
Generally the shot on CBS cover is less dark and the room is generally more visable.
How was it done.
No lighting was used apart from the TV which was switched on but not tuned in thus pure white light. Ian Findlay (the Photographer) used a very slow exposure, we were asked to keep perfectly still for around 15 seconds (ie no blinking). The exposure on the CBS is longer therefore more light was exposed and generally a more 'bleached out' effect especially on the faces. no real 'blueness'
On all releases apart from the CBS sleeve use the same shot as the UK release. I'm not sure if the lyric insert was in the UK or Irish release officially
ps The Midnight demos (released on vinyl) was financed by Midnight Records (Jackie Hayden and Eamon Carr) they approached Chiswick who signed us. Part of the deal was Midnight would have the rights to release the album in Ireland as a one off. We had the rights to release Ghostown in Ireland so we did a deal with Gael Linn
